The Hall was built in the 1920s with money loaned by members of the Lodge Bulwark as a Masonic Hall to provide facilities for their members.

In 1946, the Hall was sold to Findochty Town Council as a Town Hall so that members’ loans could be repaid.

At the time of Local Government Reorganisation, the ownership of the Hall passed from Findochty Town Council to Moray District Council.

In 2018, Moray Council took the decision to close the Hall, and a meeting was called by the Council at Findochty Town Hall on 13 February 2018 to inform the community of the options open to them if they wished to retain the Hall.

Following that meeting, a Steering Group was formed which led to Findochty Town Hall being constituted as a Charity (Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), regulated by the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR), charitable status granted 23 August 2018, charity number: SC048650).  This led to the eventual acquisition of the Hall on behalf of the community through Community Asset Transfer (CAT), with legal ownership of the Hall transferred to the community on 21 July 2022.

The Charity is made up of Members (Ordinary and Junior Members); membership is free to any resident of Ward 12 in Moray (Findochty, Moor of Scotstown, Moor of Findochty, Westerton, Bauds and Law Hillock).  Membership may be applied for through completion of a form, submitted to the Trustees.

The Charity is run by seven elected Charity Trustees, who are Members of Findochty Town Hall.

Anyone who doesn’t live within the Ward and wishes to support the Charity can become an associate member by submitting a form.

Working towards the CAT, the Trustees put together policies in order to achieve Keystone accreditation.  Policies and risk assessments are available on application.
